Based in the popular holiday destination for tourists and Aussie locals, Coastal Living sits near the beautiful beachside of the Mornington Peninsula, attracting many visitors and regulars to its aesthetically-pleasing display of lifestyle goods. Take a glimpse through the (virtual) windows of their two gorgeous shops via their Instagram (@coastallivingsorrento) – you’ll be wishing you could teleport to the stores in person immediately! Feeling inspired by their minimalistic style, and curious to find out more about the brand? Read on to see what we got talking about over our mini catch up with the team just recently!
How did the name 'Coastal Living' come about? Is there a special meaning behind it?
The name ‘Coastal Living’ came about due to our store locations. We are based on the Mornington Peninsula, so the brand name reflects our relaxed Australian way of life within our coastal environment.
What inspired you to start a lifestyle company?
The original inspiration started back in 1995 with Ross (founder) wanting to design and make furniture for Sorrento locals.
Coastal Living today is a result of organic evolution over the past 22 years. Now, is an interior and lifestyle destination offering a wide assortment of exclusive products which reflect our core values – simplicity, functionality, and honesty. We strive to provide inspiration to our customers everyday and always keep things effortless and simple in styling.
What do you think makes Coastal Living different to other retail outlets that offer kids' products?
I would say the main difference is our product mix that is carefully curated to offer items that are simple in style and exclusive to our area. The in-store experience reflects a point of uniqueness, thanks to our merchandising and service. We encourage little ones who come into the shop with their parents or grandparents, to touch, feel, and try – we always aim to make them feel welcome and enjoy their experience.
You have two beautiful stores! How would you characterise the two?
Our two stores are very different in terms of size and shopping mind-set, however both represent the core essence of the Coastal Living brand. Sorrento has a smaller footprint and stocks a wider assortment of our small and soft furnishing items. The Sorrento customer tends to come in knowing what they are after. Our Rosebud store, on the other hand, is over 750 square metres in size, offering customers the opportunity to wander around “rooms” showcasing new looks and fresh finds, and draw inspiration from all that is on offer. Rosebud is a complete interior indoor/outdoor destination along with lifestyle products.
How would you say Huxbaby's range adds to your business?
Huxbaby’s collection adds pared-back essentials that are simple and minimalist in both colour palette and design, whilst also providing a fashionable edge. All the pieces are incredibly soft to touch and the cotton feels perfect on delicate skin. We also love that the range is designed in Australia.
Was there anything you'd like to say to your customers and our Hux Readers?
To our customers… As a small business, we are always so grateful for your support, feedback, and loyalty. Truly, you are like family!
To the Hux Readers... How great is it that we have such an amazing talented Australian-designed clothing brand to support, embrace, and enjoy wearing! What’s not to love about Hux? It’s minimalist, fun, simple, and make perfect essentials for our precious little ones.
