Continuing on with our ‘Meet the Stockist’ series, we’d like to introduce to you another lovely stockist we absolutely adore – Sue and Nicole (a mother-daughter team), from Little Nook!
What year did Little Nook launch?
We launched Little Nook in 2016.
How did the name ‘Little Nook’ come about? Is there a special meaning behind it?
We wanted a name that felt welcoming – what’s more welcoming than that cosy little nook everyone has in their homes (and familiar surroundings)?
What inspired you to start a business in kids’ fashion?
It was quite a spur-of-the-moment: a children’s clothing store in our local village was on the look-out for a new owner, and mum and I thought, “why not?!” This store holds a bit of history as it has been running since 1968. So, while we did rebrand and create a new boutique, we were delighted to be a part of this lovely heritage.
I (Nicole) have two beautiful boys, as well as a niece and a nephew – all under the age of 4 – so, children are constantly on our minds. Also, having worked in fashion-buying most of my career, I was itching to get back into retail, and this presented such a wonderful opportunity. Working together as a mother-daughter team, is a lot of fun, and together, we somehow manage the job of juggling work and family life.
What do you think makes Little Nook different to other children’s clothing stores?
As the name suggests, we wanted to create a warm and welcoming store for our customers, making it a real pleasure for them to shop with us. From the very start, we have sought labels that are unique, fun, and timeless. We love supporting labels that are local to the Peninsula and Australia as a whole, along with the best of the best international brands.
Part of creating a beautiful atmosphere is providing great customer service and working hard on our visuals. We always have beautiful flowers in store, offer lovely gift wrapping, routinely provide gifts with purchase, and are 100% pram-friendly!
How would you say Huxbaby’s range adds to your store?
Huxbaby provides designs with funk and edge – always being ahead of the pack. Our customers really respond to this, and love that the clothes are wonderfully unisex and amazing quality.
Was there anything you’d like to say to your customers and our Hux Readers?
We absolutely love our customers – we feel so much a part of our little village, as well as our online community where we’ve met so many likeminded people.
We’re so proud and appreciative that for many people in our village, we’ve become a go-to for them when they’re in need of something to wear on the daily, a fun party outfit, an exciting gift, or they simply need something to fill up their free time (hello, Happy Hands play dough!). And, of course, a big thank you to those who travel to visit us or buy online!
Final comment: shopping small and shopping local is a great way to connect with your community, and it means the world to small businesses to have that continued support.
